Replace [First name] for each customer. Ask everyone, not only the customers you expect to be glowing: review platforms treat selective asking as gating, and it reads as such. Check the rules on marketing messages where you trade.

When to ask
The best moment is soon after the work, while the customer is pleased with it and before the next thing in their day takes over. An hour or two after the job for a text, the next morning for an email. If there is no review after a week, one gentle reminder is fine; a second is not.
The easiest ask of all is in reply to a thank-you. When a customer messages to say the job was great, that is the moment to say "would you mind saying that in a review?" and send the link. The template for it is here.
What a good request says
Thank them for the booking, say that a review helps a small business be found, give the link, and say how little time it takes. Do not offer a discount for a review, and do not ask only the customers you expect to be happy: review platforms treat that as gating and it shows in the pattern of reviews.
Sign the message with a person's name where you can. People leave reviews for people more readily than for businesses.
Questions
Text or email?
Text gets read sooner and the link is one tap away, so it suits the same-day ask. Email suits the next-day follow-up and the longer messages. Many businesses send the text and, if there is no review, the email a few days later.
Where do I get a review link?
For Google, the review link generator on this site makes one from your business listing. Other platforms give you a link to your profile; paste whichever you want reviews on.
Can I offer a discount for a review?
Most review platforms forbid it, and it tends to produce short reviews that read as paid for. Ask plainly and thank them afterwards instead.
Do I need permission to send these messages?
Rules on marketing messages differ by country, and a review request can count as one. Asking a customer you have just worked for is usually fine, but check the rules where you trade and stop if someone asks you to.
How often should I ask the same customer?
Once per job, with at most one reminder. A regular customer who has not reviewed you can be asked again after a later booking, with the template for regulars.
