Landscaping Quote Calculator

Enter the area, the job type and your rate per square metre or square foot, then the crew, hours and hourly rate the job will take. The calculator prices the work both ways, uses the higher so you are never under-priced, and adds materials and disposal to give a quote.

Quote for mowing and edging

$105

$105 exactly, rounded up to a figure you can quote. Priced by crew time, the higher of the two.

When the time-based figure is higher, the plot is slow for its size: awkward access, steep ground, overgrowth. When the area figure is higher, your crew is quick, and the area rate is the one to publish.

Two ways to price the same job

Pricing by area is quick and consistent: a rate per square metre for each kind of work, multiplied by the plot. Pricing by time is honest about the awkward jobs: a crew, the hours they will take and what each hour has to earn. On an easy plot the two agree. On a steep, overgrown or hard-to-reach one the time figure is higher.

The calculator shows both and uses the higher for the quote. When the time figure wins, the plot is slow for its size and the area rate alone would have lost you money. When the area figure wins, your crew is quick, and the area rate is the one to publish.

Materials, disposal and the rounded quote

Materials go on at the price you charge, not what you paid: turf, plants, compost, sand for re-jointing, detergent. Disposal is its own line because customers forget that green waste and rubble cost money and time to get rid of.

The exact total is rounded up to a figure you can quote. The last line shows what the rounded quote pays each crew member per hour, after materials and disposal, which is the figure to check before you send it.

Questions

How do I set a rate per square metre?

Time a few typical jobs and divide what they should have earned by their area. The example rates in the calculator are starting points for each job type; replace them with your own as soon as you have your timings.

Why does the quote use the higher of the two figures?

Because the lower one is wrong for this job. If the crew time is higher, the plot is slower than your area rate assumes. If the area figure is higher, it is your published rate and the customer expects it. Either way, quoting the lower figure gives away money.

Should I charge for disposal separately?

Yes, as its own line. Tip fees vary by load and the trip takes time. Showing it separately also lets the customer choose to keep the waste for their own garden bin.

How do I price a regular mowing contract?

Quote the first cut at the full figure and the regular cuts a little lower, since a maintained lawn is quicker than a neglected one. Agree the frequency and a price per visit, and take payment per visit or monthly.

Can I use this for pressure washing?

Yes. Choose patio or driveway cleaning, set your rate per square metre, and add detergent and sand under materials. For a full price list by surface and size, the pressure washing price calculator builds one.
