How the prices are worked out

Each price is the time the job takes at a medium size, scaled for the area, multiplied by your hourly rate. Fuel, detergent and other consumables are added per job, and the result is rounded up to a figure you can quote.

The times shown are examples. Replace them with your own, including setting up, moving furniture and pots, and clearing up afterwards. The time on the lance is often the smaller part of the job.

Pricing by the job or by area

Many customers ask for a price per square metre or square foot. It is a fair way to quote large areas, but it undercharges small ones, where the travel and setup are the same whatever the size. A price list by size band, with a minimum charge, covers both.

Surface and condition change the time more than size does. Heavily soiled block paving that needs re-sanding takes far longer than a lightly soiled concrete slab of the same area. Quote those on a visit or from photographs.

Questions

Should I price per square metre?

Use it as a check, not as your price list. Divide your price for a typical job by its area to see your rate, then quote customers a fixed price for their job so that small areas still cover the trip.

What should my minimum charge be?

Enough to pay for the drive, the setup and at least an hour of work. A minimum charge stops a single small patio from costing you money.

Should sealing and re-sanding be included?

Price them separately. They use materials and add a return visit once the surface has dried, so list them as extras on top of the cleaning price.

Should I take a deposit?

Yes for larger jobs. Pressure washing depends on the weather, so pair the deposit with a clear rescheduling rule: bad weather moves the date at no charge.
