How the prices are worked out

Each price is the time the clean takes, multiplied by your hourly rate, plus what you spend on products and travel for the job. It is rounded up to a figure you can quote and never falls below your minimum charge.

The times shown are examples to start from. Replace them with your own: time your next few jobs of each type and use the average. If two of you clean together, enter the total hours worked between you, not the time on the clock.

Pricing by size instead of by the hour

Customers prefer a fixed price for their home to an hourly rate with no end in sight, and a fixed price rewards you for getting faster. The size percentages scale the standard time up or down. A four-bedroom house does not take twice as long as a two-bedroom one, because kitchens and living rooms do not double.

First cleans usually take longer than the regular visits that follow. Quote the first visit as a deep clean, then move the customer on to the regular price.

Questions

Should I charge by the hour or a fixed price?

A fixed price per home size is easier to sell and protects your earnings as you get quicker. Keep an hourly rate in reserve for unusual jobs you cannot size in advance.

How much more should a deep clean cost?

As much more as the extra time it takes you. If a deep clean takes twice as long as a regular one, it should cost about twice as much. Enter your own times and the calculator keeps the two in proportion.

Should regular customers get a discount?

A weekly or fortnightly customer is worth a small discount, because the home stays cleaner and the work is guaranteed. Take it off the regular clean price, not the deep clean.

Should I take a deposit for an end of tenancy clean?

Yes. It is a long job that blocks out most of a day and is hard to refill at short notice. A deposit at booking protects that day.
